Here's my story. Way back in the ancient days of Pre-Pandemia circa 2018 I was diagnosed with PCOS. Oddly for me, my symptoms weren't onset until after having my second child. Abnormally heavy flow, inability to lose weight no matter what I tried and the string of pearls found on both my ovaries. My GYN was awesome, well I thought so, until she called for my follow up after being diagnosed and said she won't be practicing anymore. There was another doctor in the same medical complex that she was transferring her patients to, if they wanted. Sooo I go, and basically this new doctor says, "Welp for PCOS I put everyone on birth control so your period isn't so heavy." I'm like WHAT?! Can we try to fix it instead? (I was on bc from teens to early 20's and hated how I felt on it, so I stopped.) She said that she doesn't know anything more about how to help it!!!!!! I said no thank you and got up and left. My trust and hope in the medical community was crushed.
I went home and seriously Dr. Google and I spent so much time together:
-What is PCOS
-What causes PCOS
-How can I help my PCOS
-Best diet for PCOS
So many different options/opinions seriously within 10 minutes of searching. The hard part is discerning which would be right for me. First thing I did...The Whole 30.
It was tough but a good kick in the pants to switch to this lifestyle. Then Paleo. Then I remembered the 100 Days of Real Food Blog I found and enjoyed a few years prior. My husband was on board for whatever needed to be done for my health. Our 2 boys were young enough they didn't have a choice in all the veggies we were now eating (and I'm lucky enough they aren't picky eaters!!!)
After a few months of diet change and not seeing much difference I decided to keep looking for answers. I found the book "The Hormone Cure" by Dr. Sara Gottfried. It's a wonderful book that quizzed, answered, and explained/gave some supplements for what could possibly help. Finally some help I can and do use!
Now where I'm at in my journey (a few years in) is continually looking for simple, real, whole, natural ways to live and be in all aspects of my life. I describe myself as a semi-crunchy, homeschooling, outdoor loving, farm dreaming lady. I tried to think of more adjectives, but the coffee hasn't kicked in yet :)
